My review is about the book called “Asterix the Gladiator” by R. Goscinny and A. Uderzo.

The two main characters are Asterix  and Obelix  and they have to rescue their bard, Cacofonix  who was captured by the Romans. The two have to master a plan to save Cacofonix and for that they need to become gladiators. Will they manage to get there in time?

I liked the book because it helped me learn a bit about the Roman army and their civilization. I think this book can be enjoyed by children 7 and above.

Wild Boy
The book is set in the Nineteenth Century.

I really enjoyed reading Wild Boy, by Rob Lloyd Jones, because it includes many different areas of history, mainly focusing on the English past. I also liked Wild boy because it has a lot of mystery and secrets. One of my favourite scenes in the book is when Wild Boy, a young boy born covered in hair, and his acrobatic companion Clarissa Everett, journey back to Wild Boys' old workhouse. I especially like this scene because the author describes how Wild Boy felt toward the house, and that these feelings were very negative because Wild Boy had been beaten and bullied throughout his childhood, because of what he looked like.

I recommend this book for the ages 9~13 because there are some areas of the book that may be gruesome to younger ages.
I also thoroughly recommend this book to young adults as well.

The Boy At The Top Of The Mountain - Book Review by Hanae

Hey Guys!

We have recently finished a book in class. This book is called 'The Boy At The Top Of The Mountain' (I highly recommended it). So the whole reason i'm writing this blog post is to tell you a bit about the book. Here we go.

The main character is a little boy called Pierrot. He goes through a big journey in his life throughout the book. At the beginning of the book, Pierrot is a kind hearted and sweet boy. But near the end, he isnt the boy he used to be. The book starts when Pierrot is living in Paris, France. He's always had his mother and father by his side. But when he was nine and his parents died, things werent quite like what they used to be. He had to live in an orphanage for a couple of months, he barely had the time to settle in. After he went to live with his Aunt Beatrix. He lived in the Berghof, the property that Adolf Hitler owned.(Obersalzburg)  for the rest of his life after that. As the time went on, Pierrot took over Hitlers attitude. He became a different person. It was a very emotional and hard journey for Pierrot.

The reason why Pierrot turned into such a monster is because he got so close to Hitler, that he got his attitude. If I could change one event in Pierrot's life, so that he doesn't become such a monster, would probably be when he gets moved to the Berghof. If he had never gone to live in the Berghof, Pierrot would probably still be the kind and loving child he used to be.

I think Pierrot hurt himself the most because he let himself become a completely different boy. A boy who was once loved by his family and friends. Near the end of the story, Pierrot is moved to a concentration camp. You may ask how, but that's up to you to find out.  Pierrot thinks he is useless to everyone around him. Not such a nice ended I shall say. At the very end of the story, Pierrot meets back up with his best friends, Anshel. He tells Anshel his journey and his story. After 5,000 words being thrown in Anshel's face about Pierrot's journey, Anshel shows pity for his best friend. Pierrot did many bad things while he was in the Berghof, however I forgive him for everything he's done.

I hope you managed to read to the end. Now you know a bit about the book, I highly recommend it.

Below is my book review for The boy on the wooden box.

The boy on the wooden box, is an amazing story and is really good for those who aren't fans of reading. This book is 100% true and I also recommend it to young pupils who find reading quite difficult, as this book is not a hard book to read. In this book, you will go through a journey of a young 8 year old boy, Leon Leyson, in ww2.

Sincerely,
Aya

Below is my book review for 'Dust of Eden':
This book is interesting and teaches you a lot about WW2. It is slightly confusing , as it is in verses, when it cuts off at strange places in the sentences. It is very very short and doesn't take long to read.

The book was amazing, when the family became trapped, I was very nervous because I thought that they were going to be crushed if it weren't for their friend Herr Rockel. It was very brave of Gisela to take care of her siblings and that she learnt how to save up the resources. When I heard about the air raid, I thought that their grandmother was dead and when I heard about how their mother's journey, I was so shocked that she made it through all the tough times even when she was having a fifth child. Gisela's dreams were so descriptive, I felt shivers run up my back. It was one of the best books I've ever read.

This book was outstanding with excitement in every chapter I could not close the book. It is about a ten year old girl called Ada who never went outside of her one room apartment. This was because Ada had club foot and her atrocious mother didn't think of her the same as everyone. Ada's little brother Jamie went to school and was going to be shipped off out in the countryside, but Ada was going to be staying with her mother she couldn't bear without Jamie. That morning Ada sneaks out with Jamie and gets on the train. When they arrive no one accepts them and they were the only ones left so they were forced to stay with Susan Smith a person who always took care of herself and no one else. Ada soon starts to teach herself to ride a pony, learns to read and watches out for german spies. Everything, one thing, changed everything... I loved the ending. It was one of the best books I read.

Echo was a very emotional book. It made me cry at one point. That is how powerful the book was. I think that it was a very good book because it has four parts to it and they all tell a different story. So at first you might think that it doesn't make sense, but when you combine them together, they make perfect sense. It is a little bit slow, but at the end it is worth it. I would recommend this book to patient readers not inpatient ones, because if you give up it would be a big waste. You would regret it if you hadn't read on to the end.
Echo is one of my favorite Sakura books because it has adventure, sadness, and fear. These topic or categories are all my favorite ones. This, to me is a master piece.

This is my review for An Eagle in the Snow.

I thought that An Eagle in the Snow was a very good book because it told a real story in WW1 and a bit of WW2. It told some real battles of WW1 for example Ypres. It told some of the terrible conditions of WW1. It  was a really good book which has a twist at the end which nobody expected.

Yours Sincerely,
Luke

I really enjoyed reading this book because it had a happy ending and I liked how it included the aspect of mixing the truth with very emotional morale messages. I enjoyed this book probably more than A Little Piece of Ground and Mr Terupt. I also liked how the author wrote the story from a 9 years old perspective so it made the story very funny and interesting. I was surprised on every chapter such as Georgie in the hospital with shell shock or Joe Patience running across Kings Cross.

Maoist China

I really enjoyed the idea for this book as there aren't many books about life in Maoist China. I found the story enjoyable but simple. If you want an uncomplicated book with lots suspense, action and interesting historical facts - then this is definitely the book for you! For me, the best part of the book includes the photographs and pictures taken from Maoist China; they give you a much clearer insight into Chinese life at that time.     By Mr W

This book is a very attractive book, and the story itself, the boy and the ancient cultures all mix together to make this story interesting. Though this story is very funny and epic, the writing is very short and the vocabulary is not the best. The ancient Chinese language, a few of them you can learn from this book. I deeply recommend this book to children from 10-13 and a lot of elderly.

This is a story about the friendship of a black bull called Paco and a young boy named Antonito.They were having a nice and peaceful time until Antonito went to his first corrida...

This is a book about war,and how people survived there.From when Antonito saw Paco being born, they were always together. Antonito got his first shock when his father told him that he was not allowed to go near Paco anymore because he needs to get strong for the corrida. I think I would get the same big shock if I had an animal that was always with me and then my dad told me that I couldn’t even play with her/him anymore. Antonito got his second great shock when he was coming back from school. He saw his cousin Vitorio playing a bullfighting game with his friends. Antonito had always thought it was a dance.A fun dance. Antonito got his last Big BIG shock when he went to his first corrida. He went there an saw his uncle,Uncle Juan in the bullring. Antonito was excited at the beginning,but his excited feelings dropped to the bottom of his heart as soon as the main part started. Antonito saw Uncle Juan kill the bull. He couldn’t bare it anymore. He would run away. Go away with Paco and the horse Chica,and never come back. Then the war starts...

This story made me realize how difficult it was just to be alive through war. I thought it was a fantastic but heart-breaking story, and I am thinking of reading more Michael Morpurgo books.
